The Iberian pig is a unique breed with very specific nutritional requirements.
Its high feed intake, combined with its low lean meat yield and the fatty acid profile demanded by the market, necessitate a nutritional programme specifically designed to achieve this objective.

Stages of the Iberian pigs Programme

Phase 0 – Breeding Sow

Critical Point:

  • Development of the muscular system and future growth potential
  • Colostrum is the main source of energy and immunity for piglets

Produmix Initiative:

  • During pregnancy, provides an optimal level of vitamins and minerals that nourish the placenta and support the development of
    vital organs (liver and lungs)
  • Stimulation of antibody production through phytonutrients, which are passed on to the colostrum
  • Implementation of ‘aroma breeding’, which creates an imprinting effect, reducing post-weaning stress and encouraging
    feed intake in later stages
Phase 1 – Initiator

Critical Point:

  • Transition to solid foods
  • Impaired thermoregulation
  • Lack of sufficient digestive enzymes

Produmix Initiative:

  • Using the same aromas as in the embryonic stage to improve palatability and encourage consumption
  • Prebiotics, probiotics and exogenous enzymes to aid the transition to solid food and maximise
    feed utilisation
Fase 2 – Prestarter

Critical Point:

  • Immature digestive and immune systems
  • Intestinal villous atrophy
  • High risk of diarrhoea

Produmix Initiative:

  • A formula containing enzymes, probiotics and prebiotics to improve digestibility and the utilisation of phytic phosphorus
  • Gut flora stabilisers that act as a biological barrier against pathogens
  • Result: higher average daily gain (ADG) and better feed conversion ratio (FCR)
Fase 3 – Starter

Critical Point:

  • Immature digestive system
  • Variation in plot growth
  • The need for differentiated management approaches

  • Reduction in the proportion of small piglets in the batch
  • High gut health that reduces the use of antibiotics
